The Art of Dance

IMGP4705  Cesar Degollado guided this accomplished young dancer and me to make this photograph. Better yet, I get to work with him tomorrow.

A year ago,  I photographed this young lady in studio rehearsal.  Later, when showing a photo of her I liked,  she looked, winced and said “weak toe”.   Other than learning a few ballet terms,  I still don’t know how what is technically sound ballet.  The artist in me, the one that knows about color and composition and moment, forges on.  I finished posting performance galleries today and had time to go back to this, from last Wednesday .  Technically, its just in-bounds for an acceptable photograph.  Artistically, I think it borders on magic.

Tiny Dancers #3

Pre-Ballet Class.  Hard on teachers, easy on the heart.

Tiny Dancers #1

Three pre-ballet students in animated conversation before dress rehearsal.  Excitement was in the air.

Before The Call – First Dress

Last week, Monday through Sunday, I photographed the dress rehearsals and performances of “Anastasia”, a production of the Ballet and Jazz  Companies of the Cary Ballet Conservatory.   21+ hours of rehearsals and 5 performances with 300 plus dancers in each.  This was made before the first rehearsal.
