“Operation Petticoat”

The last (for now) of my DVD Movie purchases from Goodwillbooks.com arrived today: The 1959 Blake Edwards directed “Operation Petticoat”.

While flirting today in the grocery checkout line with an age appropriate flirtee, I mentioned it. She said, surprised and without hesitation “that’s really old!”. And I explained that as an ex-Submariner, I found it riotously funny. Didn’t bore her with the true story of another Submariner I met in a tech school in Dam Neck Virginia who saw it while stationed at Key West – a Pink Submarine! He said it was god awful ugly – but yeah, Bubblehead humor.

Molumphry, will this boat go down?” “Like a rock, sir.”

“A Rit Of Fealous Jage!”

My young, dog rescuing, soon to be moved neighbor (with good reason) lent me some movie DVDs. Watching “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” aged 75 is way different than seeing it at age 16. But that’s not what this is about.

This rare, triple Spoonerism (above) is from the 1964 movie directed by Blake Edwards (below), who I discovered, also directed “Breakfast At Tiffany’s”, “Operation Petticoat”, “Waterhole #3” and “The Pink Panther”! Movie night!*

* Disclaimer – It’s “Blazing Saddles”

“Love At First Bite”

Found a copy of “Love At First Bite” , released in April 1979, at my favorite Book/CD/DVD store, Goodwillbooks.com. Arrived this week.

It was coincident with my surrender to a legacy AM/FM/CD/DVD/BluRay 5.1 entertainment sound system (being donated to Dorcas Ministries Thrift Shop) that had me doing 20 minutes of remote control Kabuki to watch a movie with a paired Bluetooth headset (considerate of my apt. neighbors).

My 2 year old TV has no audio out except it’s speakers and Bluetooth. And it’s own take of who controls what. A $65 DVD player fixed me up. The last lines in the script are my favorite:

Cindy Sondheim: Oh, this isn’t so hard. I think I’m going to love immortality!

Count Dracula: There is one small disadvantage. We can only live by night.

Cindy Sondheim: Oh, that’s all right with me. I mean, I could never really get my shit together till 7:00 PM, anyway.

Reverse Swedish Death Cleaning

I’m a big fan of cleaning out the clutter. More to do, even after dramatic downsizing last year. But I’ve since discovered, I missed the je ne sais quoi of my long favorite movies which I gave away.

Which explains recent Goodwillbooks.com purchases. Yeah, old stuff on DVDs, not streaming. This is the latest. Highly recommended.

Waterhole #3

Guilty self indulgence – Waterhole #3

USPS brought this today – eBay purchase. From 1967. NO way made today! But laugh out loud and accurate portrayal of modern society. Pompous military, blowhard men with entitlement attitudes and women, putting up with all the nonsense. And making immigrants, scapegoats!

Wonderful Roger Miller singing commentary: “The Code of the West, is do onto others, before they do onto you!”

Peel Out!

The New York Times (yes, I have a subscription) recently ran a reader poll about the best movies of this 21st century. I have, not a clue. Being old, my list is of the 20th century. “American Graffitti” is way high up on my list.

And early yesterday, while listening to the incredible music CD, my bestie and young neighbor surrendered to her dog dragging her to my door where treats are expected, while loading her car to head to her folks place for the holiday. So I dog sat, literally, on the floor, listening to early 6o’s music, while dog, post treats, was receiving her snuggles and Reiki massage. And just as the Boss Lady opened the door to retrieve her, I was, along with my CD Player, in full voice “Goodnight Sweetheart, Its Time To Go” (The Platters 1960) . But that’s not what this is about.

Found a DVD copy of the movie at Goodwill, autographed by the actress Candace Clark aka “Debbie”! He did peel out and they had a bitchin time! It’s on the way!
