No longer the mnemonic “HOMES” ! It’s “HAMES”- the two curved pieces of attached to a horse’s collar for pulling a heavy load. Or, In Ireland, the phrase “make a hames of” means to botch or ruin a task through clumsiness or carelessness (e.g., “You’ve made a right hames of it”)
